Starting a Block Watch . . . by CAO Terry Cooper

Jul 17, 2003

Since the police are unable to cover every neighborhood at all times, you can help by forming a Neighborhood Block Watch. This is simply a program of neighbors watching out for each other. It is designed to enlist active participation of citizens, in cooperation with the police, to reduce crime and improve the quality of life in your neighborhood.

?• It is becoming acquainted with your neighbors.

?• It is working together to identify and solve problems in your area of our community.

It is helping the police by being aware of and reporting any unusual activity as it occurs. You know best what is ?‘normal?’ activity in your neighborhood.

?• It is the implementation of crime prevention techniques to enhance home security.

?• It is not apprehending someone. Leave that to the police.

It is putting neighbors back into neighborhoods.

?• Canvas your neighborhood for interest.
?• Ask about convenient times to schedule your initial ?‘watch?’ meeting.
?• Contact your Cactus Park Precinct C.A.O., Terry Cooper at 602-534-2424, ext. 9020, to schedule a presentation.

At your meeting, your C.A.O. Terry Cooper will explain how you can create an ?‘alert?’ neighborhood by using simple crime prevention methods.

Block Watch does not require frequent meetings. So, why don?’t you get started by talking to your neighbors? Take the plunge to improve your family?’s security and personal safety?. . . ☺
