N.E.T. OFFICERS ATTACK CRIME AT SOURCE

On July 7, 2003, all four Neighborhood Enforcement Team officers began a concentrated project of focusing on crime in hotels and motels in Cactus Park Precinct at the request of Commander Quill. The commander was aware of the fact that drug users frequently stay in hotels and motels and, from there, commit crimes in the surrounding neighborhoods. These crimes, besides the drug use, sales and/or manufacturing, include stolen vehicles, burglaries, mail theft, forgeries and armed robberies. In order to reduce crime in the neighborhoods, the NET officers were tasked with focusing on these hotels and motels.

The first month has now been completed and the results have been gratifying, to say the least. In one month, the officers have:

In addition, we have found that approximately half the suspects had prior records for narcotics and are involved in car thefts, identity thefts and burglaries.

The NET officers will continue to pursue this project, but not on a full-time basis like they had been doing. By attacking the areas where these criminals "live", your Police Department is making the area where you live a safer, more crime free neighborhood. . . ☻
