Presidents Report

Dear Neighbors,

November is going to be an another busy month. At this month?’s board meeting, the nomination committee will present the nominations for the 2000 Executive Committee. Also nominations will be taken from the floor. Remember, only those Neighborhood Associations that qualify will get ballots in December. So make sure you attend the November meeting to see if your Neighborhood Association qualifies. Julie Weston will be on the agenda to explain why the city is raising the price on obtaining permits. We also hope she explain why the costs for appeals to the city council are being increased. A lot of our smaller neighborhoods can't afford the $100 it takes to appeal to city council now, without raising it. I personal feel that we should look at lowering the fee. Sharon Joy will be at the meeting, she has requested ten minutes to tell you why she feels Y2K will be a problem. Also, Ingrid Comberg will give us an update on the Social Agency Ordinance and the change to the comprehensive plan, which should protect our neighborhood plans.

This month, we will have our first Visionary Meeting with the city. At this meeting, we will present the city with our wish list for the next two years. The reason for this meeting is we the members of CONA think we should start looking at the needs of the future. In the past we did not look at these needs, which sometimes made us unprepared when issues and problems arise.

At last month?’s board meeting, we took a stand on the 25-MPH speed limit on all residential streets in the city. At the city council meeting I requested that the council request that staff write the ordinance, so that we could have a public hearing. The council approved the request unanimously. Hopefully the ordinance will be presented to city council by the first of the year.

It has been a great year and again. I want to thank all of the volunteers who spared some of their valuable time this year helping out. You sure made it easy for me.

Your neighbor, Jim Biggerstaff
