Neighborhood Crime Report & Meeting Details

Recent Crime Update

Dear Prescott Place neighbors,

On behalf of the HOA Board of Directors, I would like to inform you of what we know and what we are doing in response to the recent crime escalation in our area.

What we know
• On Friday, March 28th, a home in Prescott Place II was broken into just before noon. (Prescott II is the newer section along Compton, to the east of Prescott Pond Lane.) The thieves parked in the driveway and broke in through a window. This link provides additional details: http://www.wcnc.com/news/topstories/stories/wcnc-032808-krg-burglars.d6606c4.html
• On Wednesday, March 12th, there was an attempted robbery in Prescott Place II at about 2:00 pm. Two thieves pulled up to the house in a maroon colored Saturn with a loud muffler, and took golf clubs from an open garage. When the homeowner accidentally walked in on the robbery, they ran off without taking anything. The homeowner provided the police with a license plate number, and it is believed that they were apprehended the same day.
• On Friday, April 11th, a vehicle in Mirow was broken into, and the rear window was smashed.
• The manager of our Master HOA reports that break-ins are up in many of the communities they manage throughout Charlotte.

What actions are being taken
• Beverly Crest currently has an off-duty CMPD officer patrol the community on varying days and times, in both marked and unmarked vehicles. This patrol was implemented last fall after several vandalism incidents.
• We have partnered with the other Beverly Crest neighborhoods to organize meetings with the CMPD, to speak to us about what we can do to make our homes and community more secure. The first meeting will be held Thursday, April 17th at 7:00 pm at the clubhouse. We are trying to secure a larger venue, possibly at Providence HS or Elizabeth Lane ES. We will notify you of changes.
• Due to the potential for a large turnout, we have scheduled a second neighborhood safety meeting to be held Tuesday, May 6th at 7:00 pm at the clubhouse. We will cover the same information, it is not necessary to attend both. You will be notified of any change in location.
• We are preparing a Prescott Place newsletter, to help improve communication in the neighborhood and keep everyone informed. It is our intention to deliver the newsletter next month, along with a 2008 neighborhood directory.
• The Master HOA has installed posters on our signboards, encouraging everyone to report suspicious activity to 911. If you are hesitant to dial the emergency number, the non-emergency police line can be reached by calling 311 and selecting option 2.
• The Master HOA has suggested starting a Crime Watch Program. This can be discussed at our neighborhood meetings.

Safety Suggestions
• Please use common sense and be especially alert. Keep your garage doors closed whenever possible, use those security systems and lock your doors day and night, keep outside lights on at night if possible, and ask neighbors to pick up fliers and packages while you are away.
• Please attend one of the safety meetings and stay informed, and keep your neighbors informed by reporting any safety issues or incidents. Our Master HOA is managed by Caryn Cusick, who can be reached at (704) 544-7779 or ccusick@cusickcompany.com. She coordinates the flow of information to Board members in each Beverly Crest community.

Stay alert and stay safe!
