Update: Shooting at Ark Bar

Update from Milwaukee Police Regarding Shooting at the Ark Bar at 36th and W. Mt. Vernon:

"The shooting was a result of an argument between a man and a woman over the man flirting with her girlfriend.  After the woman told the man to shut up (using more colorful language than that), he left the bar.  When she left he opened fire on her.   The property is a nuisance property and policehave worked hard at addressing the problems associated with the tavern, which did result in a suspension of the license last time around, but not a revocation.  The shooting itself is not enough to close the tavern."

One thing recommended is for a group of neighborhood residents attend the license renewal hearing when it happens, and testify to the negative neighborhood impact of the tavern.  The testimony of residents is more powerful than any other testimony presented, including that of the police.

Alderman Murphy is doing all he can to stop problematic taverns from operating in his aldermanic district. We have asked him to identify what date the Ark's license will be up for remewel and will keep you posted. He received MANY calls after the shooting from residents who want the place shut down forever.
