About Crime Stoppers

What's Being Done

Rising crime is a major concern for all citizens, and it's an area over which most of us feel we have no control. Since 1981, the Denver Crime Stoppers program has been out there making a difference.

The Crime Stoppers program in the Denver metro area is sponsored by KCNC-TV (Channel 4) and Metro Denver Police Departments. Since its beginning Crime Stoppers has been reponsible for the arrest of more than 1,000 suspects in unsolved crimes, two-thirds of whom were involved in serious felony offenses such as homicide, rape, robbery, and burglary.

How It Works

There is a 24 hour hotline (640-4422) for witnesses to use if they have information involving crimes. Witnesses who wish to remain anonymous may do so. If the information provided by the caller leads to an arrest by the police and acceptance of the case by the District Attorney, a cash award up to $2,000 may be made to the witness.

Crime Stoppers cases are publicized on KCNC-TV. These public service announcements present a mini-drama of the crime and request more information to help solve the crime.

Crime Stoppers' Track Record

Crime Stoppers depends solely upon contributions from individuals, businesses, and foundations to operate and distribute the cash awards to witnesses.

Tax deductible contributions may be sent to Denver Crime Stoppers, Inc. 1331 Cherokee St., Room 512, Denver CO 80204. (IRS 501 (c) (3) No. 74-2235625
