Relief Efforts for Displaced Animals
Across the Southeast in Tornado stricken Areas
The tornadoes that ripped through the Southeast in April are some of the worst we have witnessed in recent history. Many communities across six states have been devastated and many lives destroyed.
As a result of the April 27th tornadoes, the Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS) has been tasked by the Emergency Management Agency to help with the relief efforts through services provided by the shelter. Coordinating transfers from Tuscaloosa, Pleasant Grove and surrounding areas to help accommodate the high number of displaced animals, providing assistance to Jefferson County Animal Control lost and found pets through a GBHS volunteer hotline and assistance in the field, and providing emergency relief to injured horses at Mount Olive Rescue Barn are some of the daily tasks for shelter volunteers.
