Speeding traffic on Murrayhill was brought up. Officer Hairston said radar trailers that monitor speed of passing cars are being used currently in other areas. Someone mentioned that Halstead & Montford needs a 4-way stop due to many near accidents. This needs to be reported to DOT for review.

The Little Sugar Creek Greenway

A presentation by Mary Ciminelli with Partners for Parks and Allen Beaver from the Mecklenburg Park & Recreation Dept. explained about this part of the greenway system and its benefits to us.

The Little Sugar Creek Greenway has 3 sponsors: Park & Rec Dept., Partners for Parks, and the Stormwater Group.

Additional information can be found in the Little Sugar Creek Executive Summary located on the Parks & Rec website: http://www.co.mecklenburg.nc.us/Departments/Park+and+Rec/Places+To+Go/Greenways/

Also, you can call Mary at (704) 841-0986 or (704) 347-1958 - Partners for Parks

Little Sugar Greenway will add 15 miles to the Charlotte greenway system starting at Cordelia Park in the Belmont/Piedmont Courts area and ending at the NC/SC line. The creek has been very polluted due to development and not taking care of it. The protected area of the greenway system will restore health to the creek and its habitats and give people amenities such as walking & biking trails.

The Marian Diehl center will be connected to this greenway via the New Hope Creek spur. New Hope Creek meets Little Sugar Creek at Tyvola Rd.

This picture was copied from the Executive Summary and is not very clear but it shows the Marian Diehl Park, the New Hope Creek spur & plans for the other side of Tyvola.

A question was raised about safety on the greenway trails. Mary explained that greenways close at dusk. Park Watch people are out on the trails and Neighborhood Watch programs have also helped to raise awareness and monitoring. The McMullen Creek greenway has been through this and has not had problems.
