To safeguard the integrity of all city government activities, Wilmington Mayor James M. Baker and City Auditor Gene Bradley announce the creation of a new fraud hotline: 877-217-4670. This confidential, toll-free service enables citizens to anonymously report any concerns about dishonest, illegal, or fraudulent behavior taking place in City government. The fraud hotline is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

According to City Auditor Bradley, the anonymous and confidential hotline offers an added level of protection for the City of Wilmington. “The Fraud Hotline increases the threat of detection, which in turn acts as a deterrent against unethical activities,” said Bradley. “We strongly encourage the public to report suspicious behavior by calling 877-217-4670.”

Wilmington’s new Fraud Hotline is contracted through The Network—a national firm that helps corporate and government clients address customer service issues and ethics in the workplace—at a cost of $1,750 a year.

When accessing the Hotline, callers are not required to give their names; rather, they are assigned a case number. Callers are asked to call back two weeks after their initial call in case investigators have follow-up questions which might help in their investigation of the alleged fraud (the case number preserves the anonymity of callers).

“As public servants, we in City government are obligated to serve the citizens of Wilmington honestly, ethically, and legally,” said Mayor Baker. “We will not tolerate dishonest, unethical, or illegal activities; the new Fraud Hotline is just another tool to help us maintain our high standards.”
