Shannon Road/El Camino del Cerro CAB (7/29)
Community Advisory Board Seeks New Members
The members of the Community Advisory Board (CAB) for the Shannon Road/El Camino del Cerro Water Quality Assurance Revolving Fund (WQARF) site are seeking interested citizens to join the board.
The Shannon Road/El Camino del Cerro WQARF site is located in northwest Tucson. It is bounded approximately by Meadowbrook Park on the east, the Santa Cruz River on the west, El Camino del Cerro Road on the south, and on the north, a quarter mile north of Rillito Creek.
The CAB, established by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) in October 2000, meets regularly with ADEQ to receive updates on the status of the work at the WQARF site. CAB meetings are open to the public. The main function of the CAB is to advise ADEQ and the public of issues and concerns related to the cleanup of the site. CABs are composed of five to 20 volunteer members who represent a diversified cross-section of the community in and around the site. Members include residents, water providers and other interested parties.
ADEQ’s WQARF Program identifies, assesses and cleans up soil and groundwater contaminated with hazardous substances. No one is drinking contaminated water at this site, and all known affected wells in the area have been taken out of production.
If you are interested in joining the Shannon Road/El Camino del Cerro CAB, or would like to find out when the next CAB meeting will take place, please call Melissa Hayes, ADEQ Community Involvement Coordinator, at (520) 770-3309. All applications received will be reviewed and voted on by the CAB. You can also find out more information about the WQARF Program, including CAB meeting agendas and minutes, on ADEQ’s Web site at http://azdeq.gov/environ/waste/sps/index.html
