When Should You Call 911

Any time you believe your, or another person's life or personal safety is in jeopardy you should call 911. You should also call 911 to report a crime and traffic accidents.

The 911 system is designed to respond to any type emergency you may have. From the time the 911 operator receives your call they are determining what emergency services are needed and where to send them. Most of the time, before you've finished the call to 911 the necessary emergency services have been notified and are enroute. Here's an important note to remember. When you call 911 from a cell phone, your phone number and location/address DOES NOT come up on the operator's screen. You must provide this information.

When NOT to call 911

Let's say you need to call the Police Department to get a copy of an accident report or you need to report a stopped-up storm drain. While both are important reasons to call, neither is an emergency situation and should not be directed to the 911 service.
