Waldrep’s Step in as 2nd Vice President
The board will miss JoAnn and Mike Johnson who have resigned as 2nd vice president of our club. They've found themselves too busy keeping up with Dylan's busy sports schedule. We thank them for their service until now, wish Dylan well in his sports, and look forward to seeing them when they can join us at our dances. In their place, we welcome Dave and Tina Waldrep who have graciously agreed to step into their place. Thanks!

A big thank you also to Amy Manley and the Ivys who have filled in to help make sure that our square dance lessons have run smoothly. A big thank you also to Dorothy Moore and Lila Ramsey for helping with coffee and snack schedule for the lessons and to all you angels that have been coming out to help our new dancers discover what fun square dancing can be.

New Dancer Jamboree-March 29th
It’s always exciting to see the enthusiasm of new dancers and to help them discover how much fun square dancing can be. Lisa Gibbens is leading out in the planning of this dance and asks that you bring finger food and come prepared for a fun dance! We are so fortunate to have several young adults that are willing and able to help our club in various ways. Come and let Lisa know how much you appreciate her work, and help our square dance students have a great time!

Intermediate Rounds Return
The board has voted to return to a schedule of intermediate rounds at all dances from 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm, with the rest of the schedule continuing as it has been. This summer, we will re-evaluate this decision based on how many dancers we’ve had during this half-hour time frame. So -- if you enjoy dancing intermediate rounds, please demonstrate your desire to continue this opportunity by coming out and dancing with us!

GOSPEL DANCE-April 7th
Spring is just around the corner and SO IS OUR ANNUAL GOSPEL DANCE. Mike and Debbie Combs will be on the program along with George and Patty. It will be an all singing call dance with all gospel music including the intermediate and phase 2 rounds. Patty & Debbie have written quite a few of these dances. What a wonderful way to CELEBRATE EASTER.

Cinco de Mayo Dance - May 5th
No, this Mexican holiday does not celebrate that well known condiment mayo (mayonnaise). Instead it commemorates an important battle fought in Mexico on the 5th of May, 1862 and is a time of great celebration. This dance is always fun and is coming up fast, so break out your Mexican-style clothes, if you wish, and join us for fun with a Mexican flair. (Regular square dance attire is also welcome, of course!) If possible, we suggest bringing foods with a Mexican theme for the potluck. Our guest caller and cuer for this dance will be Jeff Sand and Richard Gipe. See you there!

Mystery Trip – May 12th
Be afraid -- be VERY afraid. OR NOT!!!! Our mystery trip this year is being planned by the young adults in our club -- Michael Kious, Amy Manley, and Lisa Gibbens -- with support from Dave & Tina Waldrep. I know they've been planning for several months to ensure that our trip this year is extra special and you won't want to miss it! What we know is -- 1) we'll be going by bus, 2) dinner will be provided, 3) we'll be going dancing SOMEWHERE. Be sure to find the sign up sheet at the next dance or two and sign up. You'll also need to assess your "survival rating" for this trip, so be prepared!
Anniversary Dance - May 19th
Our Club’s 47th Anniversary is coming up fast! We're looking for volunteers to help plan some special things for this dance and help with the decorating. If you're interested, please contact Cheryl Manley at 503-263-3858. Thanks!

Starlight Parade - June 2nd
Once again we will not be dancing at the hall on the first weekend in June, this year, because we will be in the Starlight parade! Plan now to help decorate the float and dance on it. Check with Bonnie Ivy for details.

Oaky Doak Club Jackets
We have the opportunity to order some good quality club jackets for $35-40 each. These jackets will be heavier and more durable than what we’ve had in the past -- and the emblems will be embroidered rather than screen-printed. So, if you don’t have a club jacket, or would like to replace yours, please contact Bonnie & Eugene Ivy at 503-289-0889.

Central Oregon Ranch Campout - July 20-22
Terry and Sue Nelson have arranged for a repeat of last years campout, dance and barbeque at a guest ranch at no cost to you other then your help at mixer dance and bringing a potluck dish for the barbeque.

Members are welcome to stay at Sundance Meadows Ranch on both Friday and Saturday nights or just come over for Saturday’s festivities. We’ll have access to “dry” campsites under the juniper with assurances of a coyote serenade. There will also be a limited number of rooms in the bunkhouse.

Saturday night we’ll help the ranch put on a potluck barbeque followed by square dance/mixer with other ranch guests. Contact Terry or Sue Nelson (636-2857) for more information and to sign-up.

From the President –

With spring officially here, and the rain showers and warmer days to prove it, we see new growth all around us. Our club is growing as well. In addition to the square dance students that joined our club the end of class last year, we've had several members join during the course of this year -- Marie Friend, Larry Wood, and now Debra & Kelly Dunn. Please get to know them and make sure they feel welcome, and take the time to get to know our current square dance students and encourage them to join our OAKY DOAKS square dance club, too.

Our annual membership meeting was well attended -- thank you all for coming and sharing your opinions. Please note the minutes from that meeting which have been included in this newsletter, and PUT THE FOLLOWING ON YOUR CALENDARS: Joint Board Meeting/Picnic; Possible Bend/Redmond trip; club yardsale; and Oaky Doaks Retreat at YMCA Camp Collins.

We enjoyed our Sadie Hawkins dance as usual -- and it brought some fun surprises. Thank you, Eugene & Bonnie, for your work on this dance. Thanks also (and a BIG round of applause) to "Cousin Rufus" and "Cousin Lulu".

By the time you get this, our Spring Fling Jamboree will also be behind us. Thank you Lisa for your work on this!

We have several fun dances and activities coming up in the next couple of months, in addition to our Gospel Dance on April 7, that you'll want to make note of as you read this newsletter.

See you on the dance floor,

Cheryl

Minutes for Membership Meeting – March 15, 20007
Submitted by Amy Manley
The meeting was called to order at 6:02pm.

Present were: Cheryl & Geof Manley, Amy Manley, Leroy & Donna Lundy, Bonnie & Eugene Ivy, John & Mary Sullivan, Marie Friend, Gil & Joyce Frey, Lisa Gibbens, Marvin & Shirley Jones, Maxine Cross, Lila Ramsay, Dorothy Moore, Dave & Tina & Becky Waldrep.

The members were thanked for their contributions to our club – it was quite an impressive list!

The nominations for officers were:
President: Ivy's
1st Vice President: Moore's
2nd Vice President: Waldrep's
Treasurer: Suran's
Secretary: Amy Manley
Member at Large: Frey's
Member at Large: Marie Friend
There were no additional nominations from the floor. It was moved and seconded that we accept this slate of officers for next year. The officers were unanimously elected as nominated.

Cheryl suggested that we combine the club picnic and New Officer Installation (Joint Board Meeting), to be held July 28, 2007. The motion was made and seconded. All voted to combine the two.

Next there was a discussion of the possibility of doing the Redmond/Bend camping trip at the ranch again this year – the 3rd weekend in July if that works for the ranch. Lisa moved that we do so, Eugene seconded. It was approved with none opposed.

Cheryl announced that the board had voted that the proceeds from the yard sale this year would serve as a fundraiser for our annual club retreat – which will be at the YMCA Camp Collins this year on the 4th weekend in September – and asked that folks start gathering things now so we’ll have a good yard sale June 29th – July 1st.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:58.
