Use leftover tea and coffee grounds to acidify the soil of acid-loving plants such as azaleas, rhododendrons, camellias, gardenias and even blueberries. A light sprinkling—say, a layer of about one-quarter of an inch—applied once a month will keep the pH of the soil on the acidic side. Use chamomile tea to control damping-off fungus, which often attacks young seedlings quite suddenly. Just add a spot of tea to the soil around the base off seedlings once a week or use it as a foliar spray. ************************************************* Newsworthy Notes: This month Gretha Lovejoy will make a presentation during our general meeting, on “Tatting”. Tatting is the process of making one eighth to one quarter inch thread flowers. They can be connected to make doilies, or handkerchiefs, they can also be used for decorating. Our Wait list is now open to those living in other towns. If you have any friends who would be interested in joining the guild, please fill out the form in the back of your handbook, and bring it to the next meeting. ************************************************* Remember to check out our website at www.neighborhoodlink.com/org/gardenersguild ************************************************* Executive Board Meeting: Date: Monday April 28th, 2008 TIME: 7:45 pm Hostess: Ann Moore Co Hostess: Lucille Barton Committee Selections and updated member information Please PRINT your name exactly as you wish it to appear in the membership book, and in all future publications.
