ESSI / RTC-TH Winter 2007 Thailand Project

Earth Systems Science, Inc. (ESSI) will be cooperating with the Rural Training Center-Thailand (RTC-TH) in its Winter 2007 Thailand Project trip. The full announce and tentative trip plan is posted to the RTC-TH website (see Our Pages section of this website for the article about this project for hotlinks).

The RTC-TH was Greg Lee’s dream at the conclusion of the 1999 Thailand volunteer project he led for the Los Angeles Geographical Society. The dream was on the back burner when Greg co-founded ESSI and began to emerge during the summer of 2004 when he and Saifon developed the Rural Environmental Education Enhancement Pilot Project (REEEPP). The RTC-TH effort went ballistic after the summer 2005 ESSI Thailand volunteer trip. The rapidly growing interest in REEEPP and the self-sufficiency and sustainability of small rural family farms required more and more time. At that point, Greg and Saifon Lee shifted their focus from ESSI to the RTC-TH. They resigned their positions in ESSI to establish the RTC-TH.

The Winter 2005 Thailand volunteer project is a natural cooperative effort. The RTC-TH will be based in Thailand, so ESSI will handle the recruiting and enrollment processes in the US. The RTC-TH will provide the project activities and logistical support in Thailand. The main purpose is to continue the summer 2005 REEEPP effort. In summer 2006, a program review will determine the specific activities for the Winter 2007 volunteer visit. Watch for further announcements on the RTC-TH web newsletter.

Disclosure: Neither ESSI nor the RTC-TH are licensed travel agents. The Winter 2005 Volunteer Trip is NOT a commercial escorted tour. Volunteers travel as individual tourists and are expected to carry one checked piece of baggage to Thailand (one-way only) with project equipment and materials.
