Metro New York Clubs & Organizations Queens Boulevard Restoration Group Newsletter 1-18-2007 Dead Trees Cut Down, Stumps Remain A recent tree survey conducted by the QBRG and forwarded to Queens Forestry, resulted in the cutting down of 16 dead trees along Queens Blvd in November and December of 2006. We are grateful to Partnerships for Parks which helped facilitate this project. Many of the dead trees sat precariously for nearly five years. Unfortunately,trees along Queens Blvd are dying at an alarming rate. Between vehicular pollution, road salt, and drought, any tree or shrub trying to grow along QB, doesn't stand a chance. We have asked the NYC Parks Forestry Division to review conditions before any more trees are planted and to develop a plan to protect trees from harmful elements that exist on this busy thoroughfare. We are also requesting that money be allocated to remove the 41 tree stumps that currently line this once jewel of a roadway.
