Anti-Litter Campaign Kicks off in Forest Hills

Saturday May 7th was a raw, windy day but that did not stop a group of volunteers and Mr. Met from kicking off an anti-litter campaign along Queens Blvd in Forest Hills. The QBRG partnered with the Department of Sanitation, Parks Dept, and the Doe Fund Organization to help clean-up the neighborhood. All medians and sidewalks from Yellowstone Blvd to 78th Av were swept clean. Mr. Met helped distribute posters to merchants to place in their windows. In addition to `taking out the trash', planting was done around a number of trees on medians near 75th Av and Ascan Av. A Japanese Cherry tree was also planted on the 75th Av triangle in celebration of Arbor Day. The cleanup took 5 hours and yielded about 40 bags of trash. It was a productive effort that helped make Forest Hills a better place to live. A cleanup is planned for the Fall as well. Volunteers can sign up at this website.
