Families & Allies Working Together Newsletter 11-19-2001 Developing a Future Plan A future plan is more than just a plan – it is an ongoing, problem solving process. A small group of people meet for mutual support, brainstorming, and strategizing. Goals are defined to identify hopes and dreams and to ward off worst-case scenarios. An action plan is one result of this process. Other results of doing a future plan include: Ø Community Participation – examining where a person spends time and whether these lead to a fuller life Ø Community Presence – doing away with segregation by facilities, activities and schedules Ø Choices and Rights -- developing dignity and respect for one’s own choices Ø Competence – identifying what is important and obtaining any assistance needed to achieve one’s goals Our staff is available to assist with developing a future plan for you or a loved one.
