Earth Systems Science, Inc. Newsletter 3-10-2005 Street Tree Survey Opportunity GPS training on Trimble GeoXM GPS units may be possible in addition to learning the basic measurements of street trees. Two neighborhoods will be used in the pilot program. (Brentwood and Sun Valley have been mentioned---but other sites might be used) Once trained, volunteers need to commit to doing the surveys over a 15 week period. (ESSI also encourages any of its volunteers in the effort to commit to teaching back to others---esp. the GPS training portion---to help TreePeople enlarge its core group of GPS capable volunteers.) If you are interested, please contact Ms Amber D. Bieg Special Projects Manager 12601 Mulholland Drive Beverly Hills, CA 90210 Tel: (818) 623 4881 abieg@treepeople.org To learn more about GPS and GIS, visit the Earth Systems Science, Inc and scroll down the green sidebar to the "Our Pages" section on this website. There are brief introductory articles on GPS and GIS as well as hotlinks to tutorials on these topics. Please mention your affiliation with ESSI and Mr. Lee (as there may be other ESSI related activities to the TreePeople activity in the future.) Note: Amber mentioned that if this pilot project is successful, the City of Los Angeles may consider an 8-year project to survey all street trees in the city. This could mean jobs(!!). Presently, the relevant LA City department responsible for street trees only has ONE person doing street tree surveys----and they are being “borrowed” from another city department. So, think about future job opportunities and growth here. If you have a serious concern about trees---street trees in particular---please contact Amber directly and introduce yourself. © 1997,1998,1999 E.Central, Inc. |
