1-15-2002
Minutes of Meeting - November 8, 2001

The meeting was called to order at 7:38 PM by Chairman Dave Oliva.

Treasurer's report: Treasurer was unavailable for a report.

Chairman Dave Oliva reported that the Annual Yard Sale had sales of $590.00 and $20.00 collected for the Salvation Army.

Minutes of the meeting of 11 October 2001 were read and approved.

Correspondence received:

1. Thank you letter from the Diane DeVanna Center thanking the Association for their $50.00 gift.

2. Letter from the Braintree Veterans Council informing the Association of the Town of Braintree Veterans Day services to be held at East Middle School, starting at 9:30 am on the 11th of November and encouraging all to attend.

Membership Committee: no report

Traffic Committee: The Town is to install stop signs at Vinedale/Audubon and at the bottom on Arborway and in addition the Town will study the possibilibity of installing a traffic island to slow the traffic down.

The Chairman attended a Water Awareness Meeting at the Thayer Public Library covering various town water issues. He also brought to the attention of the group the possible need for flood insurance. The Chairman also presented a map which identified areas in the East Braintree where residents should avail themselves of flood insurance.

Charter Commission: Nita Ricca reported that the Charter Commission Committee had collected between 3500 and 4000 signatures of registered
voters, enough needed to get the question on the ballot. She also reported that the Committee is entering the next phase of the campaign--education of the voters. The civic associations need to be involved. Nita made a motion that the Civic Association donate $50.00 to the Charter Study Commission.

The motion passed.

Citgo: Citgo was unable to send a representative to speak on security at the Quincy Ave facility. The only comment from Citgo was that they have upgraded security at the Quincy Ave plant since the 11th of September.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:59 PM.

Note for the record: This meeting adjourned early so the members could attend a very important meeting at Braintree Town Hall with the Braintree Weymouth Greenbush Mitigation Committee concerning the proposed restoration of the Greenbush Rail Line.

Respectably submitted,

John M. Pelose

Acting Secretary
