Dias Y Flores Community Garden Newsletter 3-8-2005 February 10 meeting MINUTES OF THE DIAS Y FLORES GARDEN MEETING. February 10th 2005 Members present: Harvi Conway, Fran McGorty, Leslie Ross, Clover Swann FUNDING FOR GRANTS: Leslie reported about grants we have applied for. Grant money has fallen off; we can either cut back on the workshops, classes and dance party, or we can come up with new sources. Some volunteer garden members are attending workshops presented by Committee for NY. The workshops include improving our by-laws, mission statement, our fundraising capabilities and outreach possibilities. CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS: We discussed low attendance at Yoga classes last summer, to offer instead kung fu. The children's ecology classes might be expanded, and we would continue a garden related workshop, an herbal workshop, and perhaps art classes. We have made contact with the Girls' Club and Clemente Clinic about our classes and workshops and other ways we might collaborate. . DANCE PARTY: We used to pay the band from our grant money. If there is no grant money for this, do we take the fee from proceeds or find new ways of raising money? STOOP SALE/EXCHANGE: Also our community outreach (free refreshments at the picnic table) for the spring, planned for May 7th. Clover suggested we buy wholesale plants from Council on the Environment to re-sell at the Stoop Sale, hoping to cover the costs of the dance party.. If we receive one of our grants this spring, we would order $200 worth of annuals, perennials, exotics, house plants, competitive with Union Square Market, and invite L.E.S. community gardens to join us. WORK PLANS: Harvi wants to raise the path area with fresh soil, more stones and planting turf and low growing clover, in hopes that will take care of the floods. FENCE PROJECT: The Fence Project is awaiting estimates for our chosen fence/ gate design. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Green-GrowTogether will be held on March 19th, 05, Saturday. You have already received notice; for more info act fast. SECRETARY: We are looking for a Secretary to attend meetings, take minutes, send minutes via e-mail. Total commitment 2 - 3 ½ hours a month. We've had temporary secretaries since last year. There will be no minutes if no volunteers want to share the job. NEXT MEETING: March 10th, 2005, 6:30 pm at Clover's Apartment.
