Another Errant Driver Takes Down A Fence

In May, a car went out of control and mounted the
median across from Trade Fair. It took down 25 feet of iron fencing. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt. We were very lucky. The fencing that runs for nearly 7 miles up and down Queens Blvd cost the city over $15 million to install. In addition, a contractor was retained to ensure continuous maintenance and repairs when the fencing is damaged. A repair can take up to 3 months. Judging from the number of downed fencing from Briarwood to LIC this contractor
is obviously fighting a losing battle but does have a job for life. Repairs need to be sped up. The fencing has proved to be a good safety measure taken to prevent pedestrians from crossing illegally. Call 311 to report a damaged fence.
