Warming Up for Manzanar!

The Spring 2005 Manzanr PLC work is being planned for the weekend of 28-30 Jan. Primary participants are LA Conservation Corps EcoAcademy and Clean & Green.

Others are welcome to sign up: Stipends ($6.75/hr available for students 16-26 yrs old; with valid SS#, W-4 tax form). You must make at least 2 trips before getting the stipends (trip #1 orientation and training; trip #2 more training and your teaching back to others). Pay is accrued for time on site/on task (does not include transport time to and from, nor overnight camping hours).

For this particular trip, non-Eco/C&G folks will have to carpool up on their own. Food will be covered. Prepare for cold weather camping, dress in layers. Monitor weather conditions for Lone Pine and Independence, CA. Bring work gloves and eye protection (99 cent store a good place for both).

Primary work tasks: clearing historic roads, fuel reduction in the historic orchard areas.

NPS career orientation provided along with other outdoor environmental training.

Trip orientation meeting being scheduled for Jan 18, afternoon---e-mail earthsystemsscience@yahoo.com for time and location.

General plan: depart Friday morning, 27 Jan (arrive on site about lunch time); half day orientation and work.

Sat, 28 Jan: full day on site, 6-8 hrs.

Sun, 29 Jan: half-day on site, depart for LA after lunch.

Plan to camp out overnight: must have tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, tarp, flashlight.
