Families & Allies Working Together Newsletter 4-19-2002 Becoming a More Welcoming Organization Strong communities build strong relationships among people. They tap into the skills and resources of all who live, work, worship, or play there. However, people who have labels are often segregated from the mainstream of the communities in which they live. To help organizations become more welcoming places for people who have disabilities, Families & Allies is producing a handbook called Seven Steps to Becoming a More Welcoming Organization. The handbook offers suggestions on how to include those who are not being reached by community organizations. We hope the handbook will be useful to faith-based congregations, neighborhood associations, nonprofits, businesses, service clubs, and others. Seven Steps to Becoming a More Welcoming Organization will be available in June 2002.
