Midtown Parents & Kids Newsletter 6-16-2004 Fifth Avenue Alternative Elementary Achivements Great News! The test scores are in! Students at Fifth Avenue Alternative Elementary School for International Studies are very proud to share that we made strong progress in the recent rounds of the Ohio Proficiency and Achievement testing. This year our 4th grade students showed excellent growth by scoring the following: Reading: Up 24.4% with 54% of the students proficient. That's an 83% increase! Math: Up 21.5% with 42% of the students proficient. That is a 104% increase! Writing: Up 7.9% with 67% of the students proficient. Citizenship: Up 15.3% with 38% of the students proficient. Science: Up 11.4% with 25% of the students proficient. The 3rd grade students set an equally high level of success with 60% proficiency achievement on the new State of Ohio 3rd grade Reading Achievement Test. The Columbus Public Schools District average was also a strong 54%. Special recognition goes to students Amanda Seiken, who had a perfect score on the 3rd grade reading test; Maurice McPherson and Max Kilcup who were 2 of the 9 students in the District with perfect scores on the 4th grade reading test. With these strong strides toward the 75% state standards, we can all be proud and feel that the proper steps have been taken and will continue to be taken to move Fifth Avenue Alternative Elementary School on to the list of successful schools. These scores represent "one-in-a-row". We need to achieve approximately 10% more in Math and Reading next year to be removed from No Child Left Behind School Improvement status. The staff and families of Fifth Avenue are committed to this and to even higher accomplishments. © 1997,1998,1999 E.Central, Inc. |
