11-13-2001
Minutes of October 11, 2001 meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 pm by Chairman David Oliva.

Treasurer's Report: $2,445.09 in regular account and $2,000 in a CD. There had been no change in the balance since the previous meeting.

Minutes of the meeting of 13 September were read and approved.

The Chairman read a letter from Ann Toland thanking the Association for its work in helping name the walking trail at Smith's Beach after her late husband, Frank Toland. Frank Toland was one of the founders of the EBCA and its first Chairman.

The Membership committee is completing a "drop" of membership material to the houses in the Quincy Avenue area. The Committee is recommending a mailing of membership material in the near future. The committee is also working to do a proper recording and tracking of membership dues. This process will alert the membership as to when dues should be paid.

The Committee to study the future use of the Watson Park Branch Library has been appointed by the Town Moderator, Joe Powers. The committee will start meeting shortly. All members are encouraged to use the branch library on Thursdays. Use of the library is a very important factor in keeping this community asset open.

Mike Lang, Chairman of the Town of Braintree Greenbush Mediation Committee and a past Chairman of the EBCA, updated the membership on two important issues:
(1) Sithe Power Plant (Weymouth). The plant is behind on the construction schedule. The construction company has asked the Town of Weymouth to allow an increased work schedule. This increased work schedule may result in increased noise.
(2)Greenbush Line. The T has finally acknowledged that the "shallow cut" option was feasible for Weymouth Landing. The committee, the Town, and the T will be meeting to resolve the crossing issues in Weymouth Landing. Both the Towns of Braintree and Weymouth favor the "shallow cut" option.

Members asked that an updated calendar of events of the EBCA be posted on our web site hosted by BELD.

The Chairman informed the membership of the upcoming yard sale to be held on Sunday, October 14, 2001 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Ross School. The Chairman will pick up any items for the yard sale.

The meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
John Pelose, Acting Recording Secretary.
