A Note from Cheryl:

The Holidays are upon us and we have some exciting things planned! I am happy to report that our November meeting was well attended and some important issues were discussed. Our name remains as Holy Angels 40 Plus Singles Group and our new membership form was well received. We will be emailing it to all members on our list and asking that it be returned at the December meeting (if you haven’t already filled one out), or by mailing it to the parish office in the event that you can not attend the December meeting.
December Meeting

Please note that our December meeting will be at 7:00pm and we will be there to set up at 6:30pm for our little Christmas Party. Please bring your non-perishable food item for the Holy Angels Food Bank and either an appetizer or a dessert to share. We will start a little earlier so that we will have time for some socializing in the spirit of the holiday season. There will be door prizes and if anyone has a portable CD player, we can have some holiday music as well. So mark your calendars for December 8th and come on out and make some new friends and share some cheer (non-alcoholic of course).

Community Service Project

As we discussed at our last couple of meetings, we will be collecting donations for the VA Hospital and Home in Elsmere this year. We plan to make up little gift bags for the patients and residents of the VA Hospital. We are asking that you bring a couple of personal items, like soap, deodorant, toothbrush, disposable razors, combs/brushes, even sugar free chocolates, etc. Mostly we need items for men, but there are a few women there too. Anything you can bring is appreciated. We expect to fill about 30 bags. We owe a great deal to these men and women and it’s sad to say that some of them have very little and no family or visitors to wish them a Merry Christmas.
Holy Angels Food Bank

We have been a little lax lately in the food donation department. Holy Angels has been very generous in letting us use Freemont Hall at no charge – all they ask is a non-perishable food item (or two) for the food bank. Please try to remember to bring what you can to each meeting. For the holidays, keep in mind the traditional types of things people need, like cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, etc. When you are shopping for your family, just add an extra item or two for someone who would otherwise go without.

Activities

We have some new activities on the calendar and we will try to keep this updated as much as possible. We also need your ideas and for you to volunteer to coordinate an event. Keep checking the website for additions/changes.
Sunday Brunch

We have been enjoying our brunches out lately and we’ve added a new one to the December calendar. If this becomes a popular event, then we will try to have one each month – switching around to some different locations. The next one is 12/14 at Michael’s with an optional Mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

New Years Eve Dance/Party

You may have noticed there is a New Years Eve Dance/Party at the Moose Lodge in New Castle. We have two tables of eight and seats are filling fast. Don’t be left out for what promises to be a fun evening. Be sure to contact John B as soon as possible.

Plays at UD

There are still tickets available for the plays at the Roselle Center for the Arts and the Hartshorn Theater. Please note that seating at Roselle is reserved so it may not be possible to get seats together now, but seating at the Hartshorn is general and as long as we meet outside before the performance, we can sit together. Most tickets are $18.00. Contact Cheryl for more information.

Beef N Beer with the Grease Band

St. John the Beloved Chruch is having a Beef N Beer Saturday night 11/22. There should still be tickets available, but you will need to contact Judy Malloy at 302-528-2062 from SJB right away and ask if there are still seats at our table for Rosie Volpe. Feast of Festive Finery
UD Blue & Gold Club

Only two seats left for this evening of fine dining. A special treat for yourself in the midst of all the holiday chaos. The cost is $21 payable the night of the dinner. Dress code is required.

Newark’s Winterfest & Spirit of Christmas

Be sure to join us for one or both of these events as we welcome in the holidays at Newark’s Winterfest 12/5 and Old New Castle’s Spirit of Christmas 12/13. There will be a tree lighting and caroling in Newark and some free tours in Old New Castle. Most likely both will involve a quick bite to eat somewhere close by – with a chance to warm up.
Line Dancing with Dan Fisher

On going…line dancing lessons with Dan Fisher the first and third Thursday of each month at Minquas Fire Hall in Newport. Come on out and learn something new. Dance to oldies without a partner and have fun while getting a little exercise. Cost is only $5.00 and the bar is open.
