RTC-TH Co-Founder
I co-founded the Rural Training Center-Thailand as a direct result of concerns for the plight of small rural family farmers in light of the pending crises in energy, water, and climate change. The low education levels of many rural farmers does little to help them cope with the vast array of environmental conditions that affect their farms, their lives, and their families.

My previous work involved applied geography (working in environmental consulting and geo-technical firms) and teaching. Education can be used to empower rural farmers to better manage their farms and resources and to become environmental stewards.

Through the Los Angeles Geographical Society (where I served as president for 3 years) and Earth Systems Science, Inc. (ESSI; an educational non-profit I co-founded), I organized and led pilot projects using the community-based environmental education methods I developed along with practical applied geography lessons in northern Thailand. With the help of numerous volunteers, those experiences proved the effectiveness of my non-traditional community-based environmental education methods and lessons.

I decided to leave ESSI to shift my focus from urban Los Angeles, to the rural poor in northern Thailand. The RTC-TH will adapt and refine the community-based environmental education model and my curricular materials to the rural conditions of the third world. The RTC-TH is dedicated to providing community-based environmental education for the self-sufficiency and sustainability of small rural family farms.
