What is La Societe? La Societe 40 Hommes & 8 Chevaux was originally the fun and honor society of the American Legion and membership was by invitation only. In 2008 the requirement of Legion membership was removed and any honorably discharged veteran is now eligible to be invited. We take our name from the French Box Cars in WWI which were stenciled 40 men or 8 horses to keep overzealous quartermasters from trying to cram too many bodies into one car. Voiture (watch urr) 1310 in Montgomery County meets at Byron Cox American Legion Post #72 on South Washington Street the third Thursday of the month (except December). We support Nurses Training by providing cash grants to students who have been accepted into RN programs. We help out less fortunate children with back-to-school clothing and supplies and clothing at Christmas. We hope to expand the new (to us) Flags For First Graders program to eventually include every first grader in Montgomery County. We raise money through various activities throughout the year including fish fry dinners. This website is a new thing for us (July 17, 2009) and it will be growing in the next few weeks. We plan to include a monthly newsletter, photos of some of our nurses and nursing students, as well as a calendar of activities. |
