Historic Glasgow Updates
Dear Friends of Historic Glasgow,
Just a quick note to let you know what has happened over the last few months:
1) The Middleton/Brooks house (circa 1787) has been saved from demolition and is now on the New Castle County list of historic places that cannot be demolished! We, as a community, owe thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Brooks for preserving this beautiful, significant house. (We should also thank the New Castle County Historic Review Board, the New Castle County Department of Land Use, and County Council for their efforts and support.) Most importantly, Mr. and Mrs. Brooks and their family seem to be happy with their decision at this time.
2) I do not know any of the details, but I have been informed that the Royal Farms project for the corner of Route 72 and Old Baltimore Pike has fallen through. When I get more facts about this new development, I will pass them along.
3) The American Battlefield Protection Program has contacted us, offering our group support in efforts to preserve the 236-acre Barczewski “La Grange” property in Glasgow! This is exciting news and we are working to bring our County, State and Federal leaders into contact with this group to work together to try to save this important property.
The Friends of Historic Glasgow and the Pencader Heritage Areas Association members have put in a lot of work on these three issues over the last few months. I believe the growing public interest in and support of our efforts is having a positive impact on what is happening to properties significant to the history of Glasgow and the Battle of Cooch’s Bridge.
Let’s keep up the good work!
