Families & Allies Working Together Personal Networks (Circles of Support) How Circles and Networks Work A Personal Network, also known as a Circle of Support, is a small group of men and women who voluntarily support a person with a disability, the "focus" person. Support is offered through friendship and companionship. Each member of the Network develops a personal relationship with the focus person and with other members of the Network. Members of Personal Networks Members of a Network can include other family members, particularly brothers or sisters, and neighbors, members of church or synagogue congregations, service clubs, former service providers, teachers, and those who have interests similar to the focus person. Families and Allies Working Together develops Personal Networks. We help in identifying volunteers who would like to participate in Networks. Examples of what Networks can do --Provide companionship and be good listeners, especially for one's dreams --Help find employment and arrange on the job support --Provide more involvement in social, cultural, recreational and sports programs --Host birthday celebrations, pot lucks and picnics --Share hobbies and interests --Sponsor membership into service clubs --Assist with managing financial affairs --Monitor programs and services the person receives --Help locate housing and assist with moving --Assist in developing or enhancing clothing wardrobe --Prevent abuse and exploitation Email Us familiesandallies@gmail.com Neighborhood Link Terms of Use © 1997 - 2006 Neighborhood Link, Inc. |
