Grades are given on five issues.

Issue (1) Special needs of the City's historic neighborhoods.

Issue (2) City funding for historic light fixtures and underground wiring.

Issue (3) Factors involved in improving public safety.

Issue (4) Factors involved in improving delivery of city services to neighborhoods.

Issue (5) Having a plan for implementing their proposals.

Grades are based on how well candidates indicated their understanding and support on these issues in a questionnaire and an interview. A = detailed and specific knowledge and support.
B = less detail and specific knowledge and support.
C = little detail and specific knowledge and support.
D = general and nonspecific responses; unsupportive.
nr = no response.
The grades are not endorsements of any candidates. NOTE: The report lists all incumbent candidates. It only lists the non-incumbent candidates who participated in interviews. About the Coalition The Detroit Historic Neighborhoods Coalition was founded in 1999 as an umbrella organization for the many historic neighborhoods in Detroit. These historic neighborhoods comprise about 9,000 households and 30,000 voters. The Coalition represents the interests of these neighborhoods to City and State government departments and officials. The Coalition also assists in bringing united action to maintain, preserve, and rehabilitate those neighborhoods. The Coalition is a non-profit corporation. The Interview Process The Coalition wrote to every 2001 candidate who filed with the Detroit City Clerk by the filing deadline and invited them to participate. Each was sent a questionnaire to be completed and returned. An interview was scheduled with each candidate who responded. The Coalition assessed a fee of $50 to cover publication expenses.
