B.G. CLUB HISTORY

Rotary in Bowling Green, Ohio
Rotary in Bowling Green actually began in December of 1937, when the possibility of a new luncheon club was discussed by a few interested businessmen in the Bowling Green area. The formation of the Bowling Green Civic Club was started with the Rotary 'classification' system employed, since the primary aim was for the eventual establishment of a Rotary Club in Bowling Green.
In May of 1938, the Civic Club accepted an invitation from the Rotary Club of Tiffin, Ohio and on 1 June 1938, at the first Annual Ladies Night of the Civic Club, the group took appropriate action to apply for a Rotary International Charter. Subsequently, on 9 June 1938, Charter #4752 was granted by Rotary International to Bowling Green, Ohio. A formal 'Charter Night' meeting was held on 30 June 1938 at Shatzel Hall, on the campus of Bowling Green State University. Walter A. Zaugg, our first president, accepted the charter from our sponsor, the Rotary Club of Tiffin. The club had 28 Charter Members.
