What's New in Long Hollow?

Additional Improvements for the Park

The Long Hollow Neighborhood Association is working with the City Parks and Recreation Department to install new sod and sprinkler systems for the lawn area in the center of park this spring. This will be a much appreciated feature to replace the current weeds, that although are green in the summer, contain a tremendous amount of burs which attach to clothing, and hurt when stepped on by pets or bare footed children. These improvements are funded by matching grants in which volunteers from the association match labor and donations to receive grant funding. Special thanks to John Ewing and his team from the City Parks Department and the following volunteers from the neighborhood, J.P. & Michelle MacNeil, Jeff Dearth, Melanie Nichols, Kathy Price, Gavin & Trevor MacNeil for their work on this grant.

Trees for Residents

The second round of free tree give-aways will occur this summer in Long Hollow. The Long Hollow Neighborhood Association, working in partnership with the North Hill Preservation and the Sander's Beach Neighborhood Association, has received a grant from the State Forestry Division to provide free trees to replace those lost due to Hurricanes in our area. We are currently seeking bids to purchase the trees and will be contacting the residents by mail to select their preferred tree from a list of the most wind resistant species. More more details, please contact Melanie Nichols at 439-3384.

City Works on Establishing a Quiet Zone

Long Hollow continues to work with the City of Pensacola in its plan to implement some measures to help alleviate the noise from the trains. City officials had their first meeting with representatives from the Federal Railway Association on 14 February and are working together to develop a plan to present to City Council. More details to follow.
