The Democratic candidate is elder law attorney Jim Wilson, 66. His campaign letter states he is running to offer a bold, new voice for positive change. He states, "I am running against a 3-term incumbent who has accomplished little in his 12 years and has, in fact, voted against measures that would have increased the general health and welfare of this community, i.e. minimum wage, cigarette taxes, etc., basically supporting the agenda of the governor at the expense of his constituents.
His priorities are :
Expedite Katrina recovery and insurance reform; Eliminate the grocery tax and raise tax on cigarettes; promote a health care system that is accessible, affordable and fair to all; Fully fund Miss. Adequate Education Program every year; Clean up our environment; Support a vigorous small business climate; Promote eco-tourism.
