A Metro United Way Agency
______________________________
LDS exists for one reason: to help adults with mental retardation to contribute to the community.
LDS helps people with MR to get and keep their own jobs, operates 7 of its own businesses, and runs six day programs throughout Jefferson County, Kentucky. We serve adults with mild MR and with profound MR. It is our fundamental belief that each participant has something to contribute to our community. Our role is to establish the conditions for each person to make his or her unique contribution.
______________________________
SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT
LDS matches qualified job seekers with employment opportunities. The LDS staff provides on-the-job training and supplies long-term support to enable employees to succeed on the job.

______________________________
LDS SMALL BUSINESSES
LDS takes an entrepreneurial approach to social change by providing job opportunites in its own businesses. Our landscaping, packaging, food service, laundry, and janitorial businesses are thriving in Jefferson Country. Some of our customers are: the VA Hospital, Episcopal Church Home, Waterfront Development Corp., UPS, and The Angel Place, which is a retail store run by LDS.

DAY PROGRAMS
LDS's Day Programs are designed to help individuals requiring significant support spend their days with meaning and hope. Each adult is provided opportunities to pursue vocational interests, participate in recreation, learn daily living skills, and enhance communication skills and physical development. There are six Day Program sites located in churches throughout Jefferson County-St. Matthews, South Louisville, Buechel, Valley Station, West Louisville, and Indian Trail.
