KANDO (Kaul Avenue Neighborhood Development Organization)
June 2009 Recap

The meeting was held at the Alcan Building.
The following is a recap of the KANDO meeting held on Tuesday June 9, 2009.

The meeting began at 6:10pm and seven people were present.

The meeting began at 6:10pm and seven people were present.

Following the Agenda Mike Link, the President of KANDO, welcomed the group and introductions were made.

Next on the Agenda was the neighborhood clean up. Mike reminded everyone that our original date of April 25th was rained out and rescheduled for this Saturday June 13th from 10:00am to 12:00pm. We will meet again at Ron’s place to get the bags and gloves and meet back for a cookout. From the original planned clean up, Mike has the hot dogs, buns, condiments, brownies and juice boxes. The coupons to the zoo and water parks will be passed out after the clean up. Liz will put out in the email loop a reminder and invite the Lighthouse kids and 64th Street to join us. The group was reminded that the Lighthouse kids did do a clean up, Saturday May 1st, west of 68th Street. Liz also let the group know that there will be two dumpsters dropped Friday June 12th.

Next on the Agenda was neighborhood issues and the following was brought up:

Crime in the Ridgeview Apartments has dropped by 90% and it was reported that the foot patrol officers have keys to the units.

The areas that continue to have drug dealing were discussed.

There was concern expressed at the May meeting that there weren’t as many squads/police in the neighborhood and since then more officers have been noticed. Everyone was reminded to call the police whenever they see something suspicious and that calls for service are up and crime is down!

There was some discussion on the construction of the Job Corp. and the impact this will have on our neighborhood.

There was a short discussion on the day cares, the problems they bring into a neighborhood and the fraud that has been reported in the media.

Mike reminded everyone to keep an eye on the vacant and boarded up properties.

The last item on the Agenda was a discussion on bringing in dinner to the Lighthouse kids during the summer months. It was decided to table this for July’s meeting and it was also suggested to bring it up at the 64th Street Block Watch meeting.

The meeting ended at 7:40pm.
