Harambee Past & Present
Harambee is a neighborhood of impressive resources, including substantial homes, active commercial areas, residents, community based organizations and businesses which are committed to neighborhood revitalization and a strong cultural heritage.
A large district, it extends from Holton Street on the east, East Capitol Drive on the north, the North South freeway (I-43) on the west and West Pleasant Street on the south. With its southern boundary only blocks away from downtown Milwaukee, the Harambee community includes a number of distinct sub-areas.
Harambee In Swahili Means ...
In Swahili, Harambee means ''pulling together.'' Harambee is the principle in which the Harambee Ombudsman Project, Inc. was founded. For 25 years, HOPI has searched for better ways to address local level problems.
