Foothills Golden K
The Kiwanis club of Golden K - Foothills is a service club that was started in 1976 under the principles of Kiwanis International, whose motto is ''We Build''. The club's goal is to work for a better quality of life for citizens of Lakewood, our State and Nation with particular emphasis on those who are disadvantaged.
Membership
The membership, being made up mostly of retirees, can devote time to projects that other clubs might not be able to do because of the work restrictions of their members. All members are expected to take part in some of the activities and work projects, on a talent and interest basis.
Membership is by invitation only and prospective members should attend a minimum of two meetings before their sponsor submits their name for membership.
Meetings
The club meets weekly throughout the year at 9:00 at the Precious Memories Event Center, 11968 W. Jewell Ave., Lakewood, CO. 80228-4402. The Event Center is just east of Union on the south side of the street.
Except when moved for holidays, meetings are held on Thursday, opening promptly at 9:00 a.m. and concluding promptly at 10:00 a.m. You do not have to get up so early that you can see the sunrise over Green Mountain or stay at a long and drawn-out meeting until you can see the sunset (see photo on the right) ....unless you want to! Meetings are opened with the singing of ''America'', the pledge of allegiance to the flag and an invocation. The second half of the meeting features a speaker on a topic of interest to this age group. The Board of Directors meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 a.m., immediately preceding the regular meeting. Members are expected to attend every meeting possible. A call to the membership committee is appreciated when attendance is not possible. Attendance at a Board meeting is counted as a make-up meeting for those seeking perfect attendance.
