Braintree Clubs & Organizations Gardeners' Guild of Braintree Memorial Trees Click to Enlarge Magnolia Memorial Trees The Gardeners' Guild of Braintree was formed on December 1, 1975 as a charitable organization and as a means to beautify our town. The objective of this organization remains today, as it was back in 1975, to promote interest and knowledge of gardening and to contribute to the natural beauty of our community. Each year, the Guild proudly presents a Holiday House Tour & Boutique, as it's annual fundraising event. The funds raised are used to finance the Guild's many civic contributions throughout the year. There are book donations for the education of children in our schools, a Braintree High School scholarship, plants for hospice patients, plants for Thayer Public Library, and the maintenance and coordination of many gardens and traffic island plantings throughout our town. The Symbolism of the Magnolia The Gardeners' Guild of Braintree has planted eight trees in loving memory of deceased members and special friends of the club. They are the Southern Magnolia, the signature tree of our philanthropic organization. These beautiful trees bloom at various locations throughout Braintree. Each tree is marked with an engraved sign with the name of the recipient as well as the name of our organization. One magnificent tree is planted at the Plain Street Cemetery in memory of Eleanor MacDonald. Two lovely trees are planted at the Hollis Playground in memory of Brenda Manley and Renee Scott. Two splendid magnolias grace Laffin Park planted in memory of Blanche St. Andre and Dorothy Crowley. At Furlong Park an exquisite magnolia memoralizes Jennie Reilly. At the Watson Park Library, two beautiful magnolias thrive in memory of the organization's long time benefactor and local columnist, Olive Laing, and past president, Brenda Manley.
