Dear Community Members,
Please be advised that at the County Council Meeting on Tuesday, June 24, 2008,
Council voted to enact an Instant Ticketing Program. This becomes effective on July
1, 2008. This ordinance will provide the Code Official the authority to issue instant
tickets to the owner of a property. The top ten reasons are listed here:
1. Overgrown grass – grass and weeds are to be maintained at 8 inches or less.
2. All accessory structures, including sheds and fences, must be maintained in
good repair.
3. Vehicles – Inoperative/junked and/or unregistered vehicles may not be
stored on your property.
4. Junk, debris, tree branches, tires and other items stored on the exterior of
residential properties.
5. Accumulation of Trash & Garbage - Disposal of trash/garbage must be
stored in containers with lids at all times.
6. Oversized vehicles – vehicles longer than 240 inches, higher or wider than
84 inches, or weighing over 8,000 lbs.
7. No vehicles are permitted to be parked on the lawn; must be on a hardened
surface.
8. Household items (stoves, refrigerators, TV’s, furniture, etc) stored outside
are considered debris and prohibited.
9. Swimming Pools must be maintained in clean and sanitary condition and in
good repair. Note: Pools capable of holding more than 2 feet of water
require a building permit and must include fencing (48 inches and a selflatching
gate).
10. Bushes, shrubs and tree trimming is required to prevent encroaching on the
sidewalk or other right of way.
Once a complaint is received, a courtesy letter and informational brochure explaining
the new process will be mailed to the property owner. The fee for each violation is
$50.00 and will only be assessed if the violation has not been corrected within the
timetable set out in the courtesy letter which you will receive before the Code Officer
comes out. If a hardship exists, you will also be given an opportunity to call the Code
Officer and request an extension. Please note that when the Officer comes out, if no
violation is found, no ticket is issued and the case will be closed.
Please give me a call if you have any questions about this new “Instant Ticketing”
process.
