Minutes from the 1/22/09 Board Meeting
Report from Tom Owen
Metro Council member Tom Owen reported that we residents need to oversee any catch basins in our area, especially at street corners, and try to keep them clear of debris because the city might not be cleaning them as often due to budget cuts. Our slowing economy is strangling the city's revenue stream. We will no longer receive the junk pickup mailing; call 311 or visit the city's web site for the 4 dates for this year (louisvilleky.gov, then Map It; the dates I got are March 9, June 8, Sept. 7, and Dec 7 but try keying in your own address on the city's site as your dates might differ). Recycling is now done by the city's junk crews after they have finished their regular rounds, not by an independent firm. If they miss your recycling, call 311 or send an email to Tom Owen to report it. Lights have been installed in the tunnel at the park, but graffiti continues to be a serious problem. Surveillance cameras are needed and have been requested. The 3 recent arrests have not stopped the graffiti. The money proposed for the Master Plan for Tyler Park had already been earmarked before the budget problems, so the study will go as planned. Tom reported that there will be no pot-hole filling done after June 30; street repaving will also be curtailed.
Tyler Park Master Plan
As reported above, the funding has been approved and the study will go on. The consultant is Environs. We will be contacting the proposed members of the committee and have our first public meeting at 7 PM, MCM Library, on Feb. 9. All are welcome at this meeting - we need a lot of diverse input for the Master Plan.
Wine Tasting, Treasurer's Report, Garden Tour, other news
Joan reported that the Wine Tasting Event is set for 1/25 in the mall, from 5 to 7. As of 1/22, 141 tickets had been sold, with 157 being the break-even point on an inflated budget and 200 being capacity.
Manny Caralero reported one CD had grown to $21,050.11; another is at $5225.18; savings total is $5599.07; checking is at $1871.33; and PNC checking is $96.00. But this was before a flurry of bills and checks hit him; our balance was $33,841.69 before then.
Janet Dakan reported on her activities with the Louisville Coalition of Neighborhoods and the Metro Housing Coalition, on which she is our TPNA rep. TPNA has paid dues to both organizations. Janet works with vacant lots and properties.
Jeanette reported on the Garden Tour; she will be getting help from Terry Redden and Linda Clark; Valu Market and Keith's Hardware will again be big sponsors. We'd like to get any photos of the event and put them into a slide show as promotion. This year's event will have a backyard pool theme, with Queen of Rags interested in doing a vintage bathing suit show.
Rebecca reported on her St. Pat's Day parade and Easter Egg hunt efforts. The parade is on 3/14; meet at MCM at noon. The Hunt will be on 4/11.
The board decided to "adopt" Tyler Park under the city's Adopt-A-Park program. We will do 3 or 4 clean-ups per year, and get into graffiti abatement and possibly mural-painting.
Jeanette reported that she has a 4' oak tree she'd like to give away. That's 4' tall, not diameter. Contact her thru info@tylerpark.org
