HWY 43 CROSSWALK LETTER
Glenmorrie Drive Crosswalk request
November 8, 2004
Kathy Marcotte
City of Lake Oswego
Dear Kathy,
This letter is in response to your request for clarification of the Glenmorrie neighborhood’s usage of crosswalks across Highway 43.
1) The consensus is that the current crosswalk, located between Glenmorrie Lane and Glenmorrie Drive is not utilized, is ill-placed, and leads no-where. The crosswalk should be removed with a suitably placed crosswalk substituted.
2) Attached is a copy of our February, 2004 letter which included a request for crossing changes at Cherry Lane and Glenmorrie Drive. You have informed us that Cherry Lane crosswalks will not be approved by Oregon Department of Transportation.
3) The February letter also requested a crosswalk at Glenmorrie Drive, preferably on the south side which leads to a bus-stop. This crosswalk has become more necessary with the recent development of Glenmorrie Park on the corner of the Marylhurst housing development, which includes a path from highway 43. Pedestrians from lower Glenmorrie area are most likely to cross at Glenmorrie Drive if a crosswalk is placed there (and highly unlikely to cross at the current crosswalk). Let me know if you need the signees from this document.
Summary:
A. Glenmorrie Neighborhood Association agrees the current crosswalk leading to a driveway should be removed.
B. Glenmorrie Neighborhood Association agrees a crosswalk should be located at Glenmorrie Drive.
C. Glenmorrie Neighborhood Association agrees the Cherry Lane intersection needs further consideration for safe passage for bus riders (and students) crossing Highway 43.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Hartman, President
