*child not ready for the bus yet
*too far to walk to bus stop
*goes to Waluga for band, I “do” safety patrol
*unsafe to cross Hwy. 43, walk up Cherry Lane
*band at Waluga
*Exercise is good for kids!
*too dangerous to walk
*kindergartner can’t ride bus
*needs to be at school at 8:50 am
*safety, no sidewalks
*it’s fun
*we walk for exercise and a chance to talk; environmental concerns – increased pollution to drive
*it is not safe to cross Hwy. 43, there are no sidewalks, walking is not safe
*nearness to school and don’t have to deal with parking
*energy conservation, exercise, and community connection (hallinan)
*I don’t work plus keeps me know whats going on etc. No seat belts on buses! (hallinan, drives 5/wk). Have a disability
*we live one block from school on Glenmorrie Drive right by Hallinan) yet because there are no walkways near the intersection of Cherry, Upper Cherry and Glenmorrie Drive, I have to drive my son to school every day.
*kindergartner – at some point he will walk or take the bus
*live right behind the school
*early morning Spanish class
*distance too short to do anything but walk
*exercise

· Safe walkway on Laurel Street, between Hallinan Street and Erickson.
· Walking without a parent is out of the question from our house as both Hwy. 43 and McVey need to be crossed and the cars often run the street lights.
· Live too far from school, can’t cross McVey safely
· Continue sidewalk along Cherry from Chapin to Hallinan
· Speed bumps on Cherry like every other elementary school in Lake Oswego
· Put school sign lower on Cherry – before Chapin Way
· Light at Glenmorrie and Hwy. 43
· Professional crossing guards
· Maintenance of walkway between O’Brien and Hallinan field sidewalk
· I am happy with the way it is.
· Cut brush on Cherry St. as you enter from 43
· Sidewalks all the way, both sides of Hallinan
· Doesn’t walk
· Sidewalks up Laurel St. from Hwy. 43
· Enforce Chapin from Glenmorrie to Cherry
· Safety crosswalk across Laurel Street to the park pathway
· No walkways Bergis to Cherry to school
· I don’t think I will ever allow my child to walk from skylands to school unless there is an adult supervision
· None-we walk the forest path between obrien and hallinan school field. We would love to have a pedestrian foot bridge over hwy 43
· We would like to have traffic slowed down on Hallinan st. Drivers do not speed limit. Speed bumps. Speed limit enforcement.
· Laurel needs a sidewalk up the hill.
· Lights and a sidewalk on laurel st hill near erickson st – this is an awful place to walk – scares me—there’ll be an accident there- (hallinan, bus)
· Generally too far to walk but would need safer walkway on laurel – very narrow no shoulder at end near Hallinan st (?) (hallinan, bus)

7. If pedestrian safety improvements were implemented, how often would you be likely to walk/bike to school?

· We love to walk or bike to school but it does feel unsafe and difficult to cross Hwy. 43. We cross at Laurel area crosswalk.
· If Cherry were safe to cross or if Cherry had a sidewalk we would not have to take a longer path to Hallinan.
· When weather improves – walk bike more as bicycling ability improves
· If there were a safe crosswalk on Hwy. 43 my child would be able to take the bus.
· Suggestion on Hallinan parking: double park in reserved spots for staff against the south side of the parking lot. It would open additional parking and make drop off/pick up safer for students.
· Hwy. 43 is a nightmare! Cars drive in pedestrian walk areas and drive too fast creating a terribly unsafe walking area. I have called the city on numerous occasions to no avail and only occasional police observation.
· Palisades Terrace is too far to consider walking or biking. Wish it were closer!
· We pick up from school because of the timing for after-school activities.
· Improve parking space, remove grass, add parking spaces at the entrance of the school.
· My son would walk or ride his bicycle to school a lot more often if we felt he were safe. Right now our chief concern is lack of safety and sidewalks.
· Turning left onto Cherry off Hwy. 43 is dangerous. Often cars are rear-ended there because everyone flies around you in the bike lane. Any changes?
· I drive because of weather, not the roads
· My children would love to go to/from school on their own, but the intersection at Chapin/Cherry is so dangerous. In order to see if it is clear to cross in either direction, one must walk into the traffic because trees and shrubs block the view.
· It depends on my work schedule. I think sidewalks are a must for pedestrian safety.
· We already walk our path.
· Too many hills to carry backpacks! (bergis)
· I would love for my children to walk to school but feel uncomfortable sending them across Glenmorrie and Cherry unless I am with them or they are in 5 or 6th grade. Thank you (Marylhurst)

From this information, it can be assumed that if various safety improvements are undertaken, the percentage of families who never walk to school will decrease by almost half. These changes may be seen most in the Marylhurst and Glenmorrie neighborhoods. Safe crosswalks on Hwy 43, sidewalks on Cherry, safe crossing of Cherry at Chapin and enforcement of existing speed laws top the list of desired improvements. Safe paths from Marylhurst across Glenmorrie and Cherry were also important to Marylhurst families. It should be noted that the issue of the safety of Laurel St., although not listed in the survey, was included under “other” several times.
