Minutes for April 27, 2004 Meeting
OUTREACH COMMITTEE MINUTES
Tuesday, 4/27/04
Silver Lake Park Community Center
1850 West Silver Lake Drive
Los Angeles, CA
7:00- 8:00
Call to Order. Roll Call.
Lewis Myers, Jason Lyon, Jane Renahan, Chris Lim present.
1. Myers discusses conducting a SLNC Bulk mailing. Will make budget and present to the treasurer and board.
2. Renahan discusses play at Marshal High play at Greek Theatre. Committee agrees not to set up table.
3. Discussion on the purchase of a registered voter list to target likely participants in the NC process. It is further discussed that we put equal effort to reach out to those who are not eligible to vote despite their reasons, which is in the spirit of the creation of the SLNC and in compliance with DONE and the Los Angeles City Charter. We agree that we are not leaving any segment of our SLNC stakeholders behind but we are merely exploring more aggressive and effective methods of Outreach. Once a target list is created we will send out direct mail which is not as passive as Bulk mail. Committee agrees to purchase list.
4. Myers proposes putting together a civics class as a form of Outreach to those stakeholders who are interested in or not aware of the democratic process. The class will inform our stakeholders on the basics of Government and on the new form of local Government called Neighborhood Councils. The class will further detail the unique rules and regulations as they pertain to the SLNC. Committee agrees that Myers will organize a Civics class.
5. Discussion on putting together a block party or a series of block parties culturally of thematically specific to the various Regions within the SLNC.
6. All Outreach will lead into Elections Kick-off banner and saturation Campaign as of now with build up in June until July 17th. Then on with Election Day Outreach. Meeting Adjourned.
