SEWER GAS COMPLAINTS
SEWER GASES ARE A FORM OF SMOG
Hydrogen Sulfide Gas is a deadly toxic (poison) gas from sewage. Thousands of gallons of decomposed sewage sludge passes through our community daily via Rodeo Road and King Blvd.
A federal court has ruled that homeowners and residents will be allowed to submit complaints and information regarding the sewer gases and odors and air pollution in our community 1 800 288-7664 1800 CUTSMOG

POINTS TO PONDER
Exactly what is in sewer gas? Let's think about this. What is in the "sanitary sewer?"
Well, we aren't the experts, but our guess is that the city sewers aren't exactly sanitary. In addition to human wastes, think of what pours into the sewers from hospitals and clinics. Not being experts, let's lump all these "biologicals" under the heading of germs, bacteria, viruses---whatever. Most of us would consider these nasty if not "hazardous" materials.
Then consider this question: Do any of these "nasties" get into the air that becomes "sewer" gas? Does the city of LA actually test for any of these biological goodies in the air when they sample sewer gases?
Check out the hot link below to the Meridian Engineering & Technology Reference Sheet on Sewer Gases. It states that sewer biological materials can become airborne (especially in the form of mists), but are often short-lived in air. But does this mean it is safe? Or does it mean that those living closest to the places where sewer gases escape to the air are in more danger than those living farther away?
TIME FOR A POLICY CHANGE
Maybe it is time to consider a policy change in city government. Maybe the heads of city agencies should all be provided with houses in the neighbhorhoods with the worst type of problems relevant for their agency. For example, the top public works officials responsible for the "sanitary sewer" system should live in the areas that have the worst sewer odor problems, the most frequent sewer spills, etc. Then we might see some action to solve the problems rather than mere "band-aid" solutions and perfume.
