Dog Problems and Responsibilities
Concerns Voiced by Neighbors
1) Neighbors have noticed dogs not being on leashes, and simply going right up into people's yards, into their shrubs and flower beds up by their houses. These have been large dogs and can certainly do significant damage to a neighbor's landscape. There are also a number of cats roaming the neighborhood. Pets must remain on your property or be on a leash.
2) Neighbors have observed people not cleaning up after their dogs, allowing the dogs to leave their 'stuff' right in plain view on someone else's yard. This is a frequent occurrence along the roads that lead to the TCU walking path around the sports complex. Pet owners are allowing their dogs to walk right up onto yards on a long leash and 'do their stuff' wherever they want - and then fail to pick it up. We are to pick up after our pets. Please take a plastic bag with you when you walk!
3) There also have been many occurrences where dogs are left outside and unattended to bark - at all hours of the day and night. Many owners have a gate across the driveway, and when left unattended, the dogs bark at anything and everything that comes in view - or anything they hear. Many who like to take quiet walks in our neighborhood feel that this intrusion takes away from the quality of life in our neighborhoods. The dogs aren't being 'watchdogs' here - they are simply overstimulated. Go out and see WHY they are barking and bring them inside if the barking continues.
Some neighbors have decided to ban together to watch for these type of violations and report them to the city for which a citation may be issued. There is so little quiet in our lives today, so let's all be on the team to make our neighborhood and our yards great places to live, work, play and enjoy. To report a violation call: 817-392-7012 or use the link below to report a violation online. Your information remains anonymous.
Being a pet owner is a huge responsibility. Let's be certain our pets are 'blessings' - like they were intended to be.
For further information on Fort Worth 's animal ordinances, use the link below. Here is the essence of the city ordinance:
"The City of Fort Worth has a noise ordinance, which states that animals that cause “frequent or long-continued noise” that disturbs “the comfort and repose of any person of ordinary sensibilities in the immediate vicinity” are prohibited. Their owners may be subject to a fine of up to $500. By not mentioning the time of day, the ordinance is sensitive to residents who work at night and sleep during the day. Bottom line: if your comfort and repose has been disturbed, you should file a complaint with the Fort Worth Animal Care and Control Division.
Being a good pet neighbor also includes picking up after your pet. If someone fails to pick up pet waste when they are out walking their pet, it is a violation of the law. Noise and animal waste complaints are handled in similar ways."
