The Summer 2009 Public Lecture Series
Public lectures in the Summer 2009 Series are presented on Friday nights at 9:00 p.m., with observing opportunities following the presentations (weather permitting).
June 8: What information to we get from Space? E M Spectrum. Earth’s
protective layers of clouds and radiation belts. Our atmosphere. The
Optical Window, The Radio Window.
June 15: Optical Telescopes and their tricks and accessories. The Big Ones. Is bigger always better? Segmented mirrors, Adaptive Optics, interferometry, Spectroscopy, clock drive and cameras.
June 22: Radio Telescopes and their tricks and Accessories. The Big Ones.
Interferometry, radio imaging. Radio and Optical telescopes working together to get a more complete picture.
June 29: CCD’s, Selective filters and image enhancement. Mining archival
information. New discoveries from old photographs.
July 6: Amateurs. Small scopes making big discoveries.
July 13: How to buy a telescope you will use and not get tired of. Different kinds of scopes, Some of the more popular accessories.
