A grocery store near light rail at Shattuck

We keep saying that some catalyst project is needed to spark redevelopment.

Some folks believe that a grocery store at Shattuck could be the catalyst.  It would have lots of instant customers from Platt Park, Ruby Hill, and Overland, with more soon to come from Gates.

The station area draft plans show improved pedestrian access from the station to Shattuck, and this relatively inexpensive infrastructure improvement would be required for the store to get going.

 Any comments?

Yes! a store in Overland would be excellent. The Vitamin Cottage has a new offshoot going up at Colo.blvd and Evans{at the old Albertsons} the empty lots at Kroonenburg are ideal as they back right up to Brdwy. The store could be set back and there'd be lots of parking. There's also a big empty warehouse on Acoma.just north of Jewel.on the east that would be fun to look at as a possible communiy gathering place or the chair man bldg.is now owned by another and is 17,000 sq.ft. and could be investigated,,,,I'm not excited at the prospect of a 7 story bldg. across Evans from me,,,if it's going to block my sunlight,,then no deal. All these bldgs. too should be designed to architectually fit into Overland's style. The widening of Evans is funded and will begin in 2011. 2 yrs. to get this hammered out.  Catherine

Yes, the Natural Grocers at Vitamin Cottage was mentioned.  Their store at Colo. & Evans may be a little too close for their comfort, though.  The one that really gets us salivating is locally owned  Tony's Market

You make an interesting point about "Overland's architectural style".  I think I'll start another thread on that topic.

Tell us what you know about the upcoming widening of Evans.

Tony's Market would be great! Why not go for the big gusto and get a Whole Foods. I know, dare to dream!
