Dollar Dictionary Committee

..

This committee is co-chaired by: Cathee Fisher (h) 303-333-3141 and Steve Nissen (h) 303-733-8524

Hello! We are on target to meet and exceed our initial goal! Please don't relax and think someone else will support this program. If Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation, our neighborhood organizations, public officials, businesses, and individual community members had not supported this program since 1996 - who would have? Each of us has helped to provide these valuable resource books - a dictionary and thesaurus of their own to thousands of Denver students. Every donation is important! This includes the change Steve Nissen collects off the sidewalks, the $2.00 in pocket change (our first donation at the April INC meeting), CHUN’s $1000, and Gene and Sheri Tepper’s matching promise of $6,000. All donations are placed in an interest-bearing savings account and are restricted to this program. All donations are tax deductible. Thank you all for your contributions and support, enabling us to provide these life-long tools to our third-grade students, so they can help themselves to literacy and learning.
Donations (tax deductible) can be sent to:

Please note..... WE ARE STILL TAKING DONATIONS !

Each August, in a massive INC & community effort, 19,000 books are unpacked, gift labeled, counted, repacked, and transported to the Denver Public Schools central distribution center for final delivery to 90 DPS elementary schools.

Rocky Mountain SER (service, education, redeployment) at the Pecos Community Center were gracious hosts for our labeling extravaganza and could be more helpful to this part of the program.

The Dollar Dictionary Drive has been a great program for 6 years and is greatly appreciated by the DPS principals, teachers and students. At each school is a dictionary and a thesaurus for each DPS third grade student to take home. The best way to experience the value of this gift to the students is to participate at your neighborhood school in the distribution of the dictionaries to the students either in the classroom or an assembly. This is arranged with the principal of each elementary school and all have been excited to have us as neighborhood and community members come to the school and meet their teachers and students. Each principal has been notified by e-mail and letter as to their friendly neighborhood association.

Thanks also to all who have spread the word to friends and neighbors about our Dollar Dictionary Drive. This INC program is a positive effort to reach out to a group of citizens in the spirit of our stated goal - the continuing improvement of Denver. Please keep spreading the word.
