Wildfire Evacuation Overview

Informational Meeting March 18, 7PM

WHAT: Through a collaborative effort, the Colorado Springs Fire and Police Departments, and the City’s Office of Emergency Management are holding a community briefing on their efforts to ensure residents in the city’s wildland-urban interface are informed on the response and evacuation measures that will be implemented during a large-scale wildfire in the City of Colorado Springs.

Emergency responders continuously plan and train for all-hazard incidents as part of the scope of their jobs; now they’re requesting residents also be informed and prepared on their personal responsibilities during an evacuation order.

As demonstrated during the recent catastrophic fires in Australia, the importance of knowing how and what to do during an evacuation is crucial to protecting the safety of both residents and first responders.

Officials will provide an evacuation overview and discuss the potential issues that could develop during a wildland fire.

WHEN: Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 7 p.m.

WHERE: Fire Station 16 – 4980 Farthing Drive

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: CSFD Battalion Chief Kent Matthews, CSPD Lieutenant David Whitlock, and Bret Waters the City’s Director of Emergency Management will be the featured presenters.
